6 ways businesses can give back this holiday season

The holiday season allows small business owners and franchisees to get creative and show support for their local communities. For some, Small Business Saturday, on Nov. 26, kicked off an exciting holiday season. This annual event raises visibility of small businesses and their contributions to local communities.

Whether you missed the action this year or want to keep the momentum going, consider these 6 ways to give back this holiday season.

Host a collection drive

Many nonprofit organizations publish donation wish-lists on their websites. If you have a social cause or favorite organization, check their website to see what they may be collecting. Winter clothes, food, learning games, toys, toiletries and baby care items often are in-demand.

Donate a portion of proceeds from a holiday-inspired product

If you have the flexibility to introduce a holiday-inspired product, consider donating proceeds to a local organization that aligns with your values or mission. For example, restaurants may want to introduce a holiday lunch special with a portion of proceeds benefiting hunger relief efforts through a local food bank.

Organize a family-friendly group volunteer opportunity for your clients

Client or guest holiday appreciation events can be more meaningful and memorable when you incorporate a volunteer activity. Families often look for ways to get involved in their community, together, during the holiday season. Partner with an organization sending care packages to troops or wrapping presents, and find out how you may be able to host a holiday volunteer event at your office.

Match customer donations to a specific organization

Consider promoting an option for customers to donate an additional dollar amount to a specified charity when they pay; share that your business will match customer donations, up to a certain dollar amount.

Promote a reputable organization by sharing or underwriting ad space or on social media

If you have available ad space or a holiday social media campaign, consider how you might raise awareness for an organization or cause that your business supports. Some businesses allow customers to vote, via social media, for one of a few select organizations to receive a holiday donation.

Align with a national campaign

If you’re affiliated with a corporation that features a holiday campaign and engagement opportunity for its franchisees, consider aligning with those efforts. Additional promotional resources or corporate matching dollars may be available to benefit your local community.

Share your spirit of giving. Engage and delight your guests.

We wish you well this holiday season, and please remember that FranNet is here for you.
