No one would dispute the fact that it is important for every New Jersey franchisee to set goals. Goal setting is an important part of any business – it gives entrepreneurs a yardstick by which to measure their progress and success. But while setting and reaching goals can be a deeply personal pursuit, it is almost never done in isolation from other people.
If you are a New Jersey franchisee, there will be many people along the way who will be vital to helping you reach your goals.
Here are a few examples:
Your Mentors
When we think of mentors, we might think of Luke Skywalker’s Yoda or Daniel’s Mr. Miyagi or some other such impressive, somewhat mystical being. But a mentor is simply someone who has already done what you are trying to do.
In the franchise world, you can find suitable mentors in many places. A mentor may be another franchisee, someone within the franchise head office, or someone else who has been successful in business.
It’s ok to have more than one mentor. You may find one mentor who is amazing at sales and another who has a knack for attracting the best employees.
As you strive to accomplish your goals, be on the lookout for mentors who can help you along your journey.
Your Customers
If you don’t have customers, you don’t have a business. They are the ones who are going to bring revenue into your business and refer you to their friends if they like the service they received. That’s why it’s always important to treat your customers like gold – because they are.
When interacting with your customers – or training your employees to interact with them – think about treating them in a way that is compatible with your goals.
Your Supporters
As a New Jersey franchisee, you’ve always got a support network behind you – you are not Rambo. For starters, you’ve got your franchisor and a network of other franchisees that you can go to for help and advice.
On the home front, you’ve also got family and friends who while they may or may not be directly involved in the franchise, have a vital role to play in ensuring that you keep a healthy work-life balance.
Finally, if you have a partner or employees in your franchise, these people will also play a critical role in helping you achieve your goals. Make sure you communicate your goals for the franchise with them and get their buy-in.
Other Franchisees
While we mentioned them in your list of supporters, we think that other franchisees needs special attention in the list of people who can help keep you on track and accomplish your goals. Franchisees have a distinct advantage over other types of business owners because there is a whole network of people who have been where you want to go and are willing to help you get there.
Franchisees are often paired up with other franchisees to serve each other as accountability partners. There are also accountability groups and mastermind groups that can be formed – all with the purpose of helping each other succeed in business.
Your Connectors
As a New Jersey franchisee, you will need to make connections with potential customers, suppliers, service providers and others.
Connectors are simply people who have a strong network and are good at making introductions. Your connectors may include your franchise consultant, part of your franchisor’s management team, or someone you meet at your local chamber of commerce.
So as you are setting goals for your New Jersey franchise, think about the people in your life and business and how they will be a part of you reaching those goals. Remember to acknowledge and show appreciation for their important contributions.
