Breadsmith Franchise

Breadsmith bakery is an award-winning brand that has amassed notoriety in Bon Appetit magazine and has consistently been honored as "best of" in nine city guides. We specialize in baking unique bread from scratch with our steam-injected hearth ovens imported from Europe.

These ovens allow Breadsmith to make authentic rustic, artisan loaves of bread. From the proprietary flour milled exclusively for Breadsmith, the highest-grade vanilla imported from Madagascar or freshly ground cinnamon from East Asia, Breadsmith searches the world for the finest and quality ingredients in every area of the bakery.

Values & History

While studying in Norway, our founder Dan Sterling got his first taste of European bread. Sterling later returned to the United States and graduated from Harvard Business School before starting his own company. He opened the first Breadsmith Bakery in 1993, and the company began franchising in 1994.

Twenty-six years after Breadsmith Bakery's establishment, we have expanded our brand to 35 stores in nine states, and we will continue to open new stores based on a thoughtful and considerate expansion plan.

Industry Performance

The baking industry generates more than $30 billion in revenue annually. The American Bakers Association (ABA) reports the economic impact of baked goods produced and sold in the U.S. totals $423 billion. Retail bakeries generate around $3 billion in revenues, and commercial bakeries sell $31 billion in products.

The market for baked goods is expected to grow around 1 percent per annum in the coming decade, and large commercial bakeries will dominate the competition in the market. Our ability to drive wholesale and commercial revenue, as well as our unique approach to sales, gives our operators an enhanced revenue-generating model that will ensure the growth of our brand.

Training & Support

We have a team of expert that will guide you through each step of the franchising process. We provide intensive, hands-on 3-week training program in artisan baking and business operations. We also assist new franchise owners with site selection and more than 300 hours of on-site support for store opening as well as ongoing support and assistance from a trusted franchise partner.

Ideal Candidate & Qualifications

Our franchise opportunity is open to individuals who have a passion for baking fresh, made-from-scratch artisan loaves of bread while actively serving the community.
