Values & History

Kitchen Tune-Up was founded in 1988 by Dave and Cindy Haglund. After years of running a successful cabinet store, Dave and Cindy began to add more products and features modeled after the traditional "tune-up" concept auto mechanics use to make a car look and run like new. Applying this model to kitchen renovations proved wildly successful during an economic recession, and the founders knew they had developed something special. The company began franchising in 1988 from the home office located in Aberdeen, SD, and today over 150 locations are in operation around the country.

Industry Performance

Home renovation and remodeling services account for $85 billion in total revenue yearly, and business is increasing steadily as discretionary spending continues to rise as a result of the recent economic upturn. Over the last five years, the industry has seen an annual growth rate of over 8.0% on average, with the number of businesses in operation shooting to over 130,000.

Training & Support

Our training is second-to-none in the industry, starting with an exhaustive home-study pre-training course that guides new owners through all aspects of business operation, including eight days of hands-on training at our facilities in Aberdeen, South Dakota. After training concludes an assigned mentor will be on hand to provide guidance through our 12-week action plan, complete with online training modules that can be accessed from any device. Continuous access to online training materials is also provided for owners and their staff, along with ongoing support through an assortment of coaching services, marketing materials, web utilities, and networking events.

Ideal Candidate & Qualifications

Self-starters with an outgoing personality and a real desire to manage and grow their own business are ideal candidates. Experience with managing projects and a background in sales is also preferred, but not required, but a motivation to excel is absolutely essential to the success of this franchise. Experience with home remodeling and design is also helpful, but our training will cover all aspects of business operation. New franchise owners should be ready to make a full-time commitment to ensure the success of their growing business.

Purchasing a Kitchen Tune-Up Franchise

Prospective candidates for franchise ownership will need a net worth of at least $350,000 and access to a minimum of $50k in liquid funds to apply. The total initial investment should be expected to range between $72,000 and $150,000 for most. Third-party financing options are available for those that qualify.
