At Runza, our recipes and processes might be decades old but our ingredients aren't. We started in Lincoln, Nebraska, then expanded throughout the state and into some neighboring states. To keep it fresh, we chose not to go national. Our signature sandwich is filled with cabbage and people love it. The Runza Sandwich features fresh-baked bread stuffed with ground beef, onions, our secret blend of spices and yes, cabbage.
Values & History
We've been around since 1949. Started by Sally Everett, expanded by her son and still run by her grandchildren. The Runza Sandwich is also called Bierocks. Both the Bierock and the Runza sandwich have German-Russian roots going back to the 18th century. This unique recipe was passed down from one generation to the next, eventually finding its way to the Midwest of America and particularly to the states of Kansas and Nebraska (but with different names). Originally the Bierocks were served to the field workers for lunch. Today Bierocks are enjoyed at any time and can be found at just about every church fund-raiser in the Kansas area.
Why Us?Owning a Runza Restaurant isn't just about serving sandwiches - it's about serving communities. We opened our first restaurant in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1949 and we're still a family-owned business serving communities in Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado and Iowa. Keeping it close to home ensures each Runza Restaurant gets hands-on support from headquarters and each Runza meal is made with the same commitment to quality, chain-wide.
We're always on the lookout for great people to become part of our family and grow our presence in the areas we serve.
Purchasing a Runza Franchise
There's an initial franchise fee of $30,000. Minimum liquidity and net worth requirements vary based on specific project costs. But you must own a minimum of 51% equity stake in the business and 40% equity stake must come from non-borrowed sources.
We grant individual as well as area development franchises for new or existing locations. We're actively seeking Franchisee candidates in Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, Iowa, Missouri and Wyoming only.
