Values & History
Since 1998 Zoup! has led the soup-differentiated category of Fast-Casual dining experiences by offering a star lineup of 12 daily soups and made-to-order sandwiches. Inspired by the discoveries made while building their first company, which made soup and spice mixes for restaurants, the founders sold their budding business and teamed up with a top chef, spending nearly two years creating and testing their recipes. The first location was opened in Southfield, MI, a suburb of Detroit, in 1998, and the success of the model was confirmed. Over the next four years, the founders continued to refine their recipes and added sandwiches and salads made with fresh ingredients to the menu, opening five more locations in the Detroit area and sharing its successful model with franchisors. Today, more than 100 locations are in operation.
Industry Performance
Fast-casual dining is quickly becoming one of the fastest-growing market segments in the restaurant sector throughout the US. Fast-casual dining chains continued to increase sales over the last year, generating more than $42.2 billion in US sales in 2018, up 8% from the prior year. Market growth outpaced the rest of the industry by a significant margin.
