Enjoy your holidays … but keep moving
During this season, many of us hurry and scurry to fit in all the activities we (or others) want to do. At the same time, we also look forward to a change of pace—or some rest—from our usual patterns. If you’re in either the business exploration or job search process, consider a balance between those two extremes: Keep moving forward, but also change your mode/pace. Here are a few ideas to consider:
-
Reach out to people who’re still in the office. Sure, many businesspersons are off and some organizations are effectively on hiatus, but a surprising number of people are around. They’re often in a better-than-average mood, operating at a different pace and reachable. Caution: If someone’s in frantic, end-of-year closing/completion mode, don’t bug them.
-
Share appropriately with those you encounter in family gatherings, parties and other events. If you’re in the job search, you never know who’s connected to whom, so mention your focus/status and then be ready to tell them more if they ask. If you’re in business exploration mode, keep researching and analyzing, as well as talk with your advisors if possible.
-
Plan to get a great start out of the 2016 gate. Block some time to review what worked and didn’t work in 2015, figure out why and write down exactly what you’ll do differently or better starting in 1Q16. Start scheduling meetings with key people for January.
-
Rest and recreate. Even though the prime message has been to keep moving, intentionally choose to disengage fully at some points during the season. You need and deserve it.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all!
