What Makes North Texas SO Attractive for Business

If you’re lucky enough to be a resident of North Texas, you’ll want to read this blog which covers the many reasons why this region is so attractive for business. I recently had the opportunity to attend a “state of the state” address given by the North Texas Commission, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing business, commerce, and higher education in the area. They provided the audience with a collection of amazing statistics too good not to share!

Sarass

First and foremost, the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is the fourth-largest metro area in the U.S., with approximately 7.5 million residents. This makes North Texas the No. 1 fastest growing region in the country. Hundreds of thousands have moved here recently, and not all of them are flooding in from California—despite what the bumper stickers say. In fact, only 17% of all relocating families came from the Golden State (and our very own Roxanne Rapske was one of them!) According to the infographic above, the equivalent of one person moves here on average of every four minutes.

North Texas is also home to 24 Fortune 500 company headquarters, including powerhouse organizations such as AT&T, ExxonMobil, American Airlines, and CBRE Group (a nice mix of industry here). Toyota USA is a recent transplant, as is Charles Schwab.

When it comes to our workforce, we’re not only diverse, but also a well-educated bunch. 33 college and universities dot the landscape, which also houses 113 independent school districts and 58 public charter schools. In all, we boast a labor force of four million people. We have the fifth highest concentration of tech workers in the entire country right here.

By GDP numbers, the North Texas region has the fourth largest economy in the entire U.S., with over $19 billion in total merchandise exported. If the North Texas region were classified as its own state, we’d equal the GDP output of either the entire states of New Jersey or Georgia. Think about that the next time someone compares Dallas to Atlanta.

One final boast—you wouldn’t show your total North Texas pride without pointing out that we’re also home to the highest value sports franchise—in the entire world! That’s right, the Dallas Cowboys organization has an estimated value of $5.2 billion (with a B) dollars. No wonder we’ve always been referred to as “America’s Team.”

The point of this blog is to point out the obvious. If you’re looking to start a business of your own, it’s hard to make an argument that any area is more fertile ground than the black grassland prairie of North Texas. Just pick your location. We have 13 counties and about 9,000 square miles of the most pro-business climate you can find in the country. And, if you couldn’t already tell, we’re mighty darn proud of it!
